  MI Hummel Little Sweeper
Final Issue Hummel Figurine 171 Hummel Little Sweeper Final Issue Hummel Reference Number 155860 Hummel Figurine 171 Trademark 8 Size 4.25" Retirement nears for our favorite housekeeper Little Sweeper
The year was 1944. Master Sculptor Reinhold Unger, in his atelier at W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik, studied a drawing by Sister M.I. Hummel. He lifted his tools and began to work the dark clay on the table before him. Slowly, Little Sweeper came to life.
Herr Unger didn’t forget to add the subtle details he observed in Sister Hummel’s artwork – rolled up sleeves, a kerchief on the girl’s head to keep the dust off her hair, an apron around her waist to keep her dirndl neat. The sculpture that emerged looked every bit like an industrious housekeeper, right down to her intent expression as she swept up every stray crumb.
The original title was Mother’s Helper. Except for a slight freshening-up in 1981 by Master Sculptor Gerhard Skrobek, the motif has remained virtually unchanged since its 1944 birthday. Now, more than 60 years later, Little Sweeper is finally ready to put down her broom. In 2006, Little Sweeper will retire. She’ll continue to tidy up for the next few months, bearing a Final Issue Medallion and Backstamp. But on December 31, 2006, the molds will be broken and the figurine will no longer be produced. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have Little Sweeper help with the chores at your house? Now is the time to bring her home!
